An Eternal Conversation

I’ve been obsessed with meaning my whole life. Give me purpose, belonging, and understanding. Why do we breathe? Why do we exist? Who is God? Why is God? Why is He worthy of our lives? Just the very casual questions that have been circling around in my head for years. Mostly the last 9 of them. I don’t necessarily have an answer for any of these questions. Not one I can articulate at least. Besides, having the answers is no fun. Life with God is not something we’re trying to ace out here. All I know, is that I’ve found the fullness of life hidden deep in the mysteries of Christ. Kind of like when you listen to a song that’s SO GOOD that you literally feel it move throughout your whole body. Then all of a sudden your heart is beating on the outside of your chest. That’s the best way I can articulate what this fullness feels like to me. His Spirit moving so deep in me that He must also move through me.

When I quit competitive softball in high school, it shifted how I saw my purpose. To the point where I wrestled with the question; “Does my life hold purpose?” So, I wanted to figure out what it was. I had often heard growing up that I need to make sure I contribute to society. I’m not sure what we mean by this. Maybe it’s the anxiety that our lives will mean nothing once our bodies go back to the dirt. Obsessed with legacy, perhaps. I just wonder if we’d get more from this life if we stopped trying to prove to ourselves that we’re contributing to something worthwhile. Afraid that we’re falling short of what our lives are “supposed to be”, therefore depriving ourselves of true satisfaction. We’ve forgotten that God desires to give us a good life.

For me, contributing to society sounds like this quote by a guy named Strahan.

“May you learn to rest into prayer. To jump into the conversation that began before you awoke, before you were born, and will continue beyond your final breath.”

“Contribution to society” flows naturally from the secret place. We rest our heads against Jesus’ chest. Close enough to hear the beating of His heart, to hear Him whisper His affection for us. What we call the Lord’s prayer, I believe, is Jesus inviting us into this conversation that’s been happening amongst the Trinity for a millennia. Jesus says;

“Pray like this: ‘Our Beloved Father, dwelling in the heavenly realm, may the glory of your name be the center of which our lives turn. Manifest your kingdom realm, and cause your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth, just as it is in heaven. We acknowledge you as our Provider of all we need each day. Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we ourselves release forgiveness to those who have wronged us. Rescue us every time we face tribulation and set us free from evil. For you are the King who rules with power and glory forever. Amen.”

In this place of opening our ears to an eternal conversation, we get to discover our voice in it. This eternal conversation of salvation and how He’s working it out in each of us. What an honor it is to be a part of the restoration of the earth and humanity.

This is the why I’m choosing to move to Guatemala. In observing my life over the years, leaning into the movement of the Spirit, and having a larger understanding of what my life has to do with eternity, it made complete sense. My heart is for people to know God for who He is as we discover Him. God breathed His Spirit into me, and now I hear Him say “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 37:4-6) His Spirit had made us alive, praise God.

WOW. I get to do this as my full time job. Secured the dream job at 23, bless God.

A lot of this was written with Ephesians 1:3-14 in mind. I highly recommend you read it and let Holy Spirit move you.
